Washington Trout - Cooper Point Stream Survey
September 2004
The Washington
Trout website is interesting, and very informative about the history and
goals of the organization. They have done much work in Washington State,
however this will be their first effort in Thurston County.
The organization plans to conduct surveys of streams on Cooper Point. The
group plans to conduct the survey between April 25 and June 15 2005.
Washington Trout is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving,
protecting and restoring native fish habitat in Washington State. They focus
on accurately identifying native fish habitats as a first step towards
protection. Part of the project goal is to update DNR maps and data
regarding fish bearing streams in these areas.
They will be seeking funding from the Inter-Agency Committee Salmon
Recovery Funding Board to research fish bearing streams on Cooper Point and
along McLane Creek. The group is seeking contributions so that matching
funds can be provided by the Salmon Recovery Funding Board.
Thurston County is a partner on the project, and will be providing data
for identifying property owners affected. Landholders will be contacted
before the survey can be done, as landholder permission is needed to access
the on-ground stream areas.
Capitol Land Trust - Conservation Protects Habitat on Cooper Point
from Cooper Point Assn. Spring 2003 Newsletter
The Capitol Land Trust has been working hard to permanently protect
threatened habitat in your neighborhood! In 2002 we celebrated the
conservation of the 25 acres known as McLane Point on Eld Inlet. We also
worked with you - the members of the Cooper Point Association - to protect
63 acres of Green Cove Creek Basin wetlands and magnificent forest, which
are homes for threatened species.

Capitol Land Trust.
